syllable hand movements

We teach students that a syllable is “a word, or a part of a word, with a talking vowel,” as well as hand movements to go along with it to help them remember. I have been working on this with one of my students during our sessions, but wanted him to have a little extra practice at home. I put together this handout so his mom would know what the sequence was supposed to be.

Here’s the .pdf file if you want to download it: what is a syllable hand movements.

If you are sitting across from your student, consider doing the hand movements with your left hand (if the student is right-handed) or vice versa for lefties so that the student is mirroring you with their dominant hand.
